This 2011/12 crop is Fair Trade® certified. This is Invalsa's selection of the Ateneo coffee lots grown and processed by the CoopeAtenas Cooperative in Costa Rica's renown Tarrazu region at 3,000 feet above sea level. CoopeAtenas R.L. is an Industrial/Agricultural Cooperative, founded in 1969, offering multiple services to its members. It is located in Atenas, a province in Alajuela, Costa Rica, home to the famous grapefruit bakeries, the famous railroad station Río Grande, where the political unification of Costa Rica was fought in the 1950's, the historical resting place for merchants in the early 19th century, and, not least, the holder of the well known reputation with "the best climate in the world," for its agricultural products, especially coffee. Since its foundation CoopeAtenas has dedicated itself to produce and offer coffee to both the national and international markets with high levels of quality in all ares of production & distribution. Their gradual and cumulative efforts made by generations of its members and local businesses through the years have propelled the cooperative as an agricultural business model for the Tarrazu region, and the country of Costa Rica. Our CEO Nelson visited the Cooerative mill and some of its farmer members in July of 2009 and in May of 2010 to verify the quality of their coffees and was impressed and satisfied with them. Invalsa entered into a long-term relationship with the cooperative for the provision of Costa Rican specialty-grade and microlot coffees. Our Head Cupper gave this coffee a cupping score of 83 points. Comments: Mild acidity, cinnamon and citrus aroma, balanced body, lingering aftertaste.
